From the Official Blog of Gerald Waldrop

I am War.
I killed a man – you’ve seen his skull split and spilling blood... Am I Evil?
I’ve killed billions and I will continue to kill. I am War. I’ve heard many discussions on the matter. Certainly as a living, feeling, sentient being, it is easy to see carnage and destruction in the aftermath of battle make the conclusion – War is Evil.

...On with the action now, I'll strip your pride.
I'll spread your blood around, I'll see you ride.
Your face is scarred with steel, wounds deep and neat.
Like a double dozen before you, smells so sweet... – “Am I Evil?” by Metallica

But is the question so simply answered? We could ponder the philosophical questions concerning “greater good” and “necessary evils”, but that is not the purpose of this writing. I will simply share my contemplation for our mutual benefit.

You see, war is a part of my nature. Love of violence has always been a part of humanity and our shared history; but it is more than that. War, in essence, is conflict - albeit on a grander scale. Conflict is an obvious, intrinsic part of nature. It is inherent in our physical laws. In physical trajectory as in thoughts/beliefs (of persons, societies, or nations) – when two things that do not move in the same direction come in contact, there will be an outcome... an end result of the interaction. Conflict is the process or means by which the end result is formed.

I do not seek destruction, or death. These are simply inevitabilities. I will not ignore the fact that they cause suffering – as bleeding hearts might raise protest by the notion that mankind should not be made to suffer... I will state this simply: The weak cry for their suffering. The strong, the determined - they embrace suffering... they learn and grow from it.

Death. Destruction. Suffering. These are pieces in the cyclical nature of reality/the universe... like pruning a tree, there are things which must be removed in order for the universe to continue as it should. They are necessities, but they are not always necessary... Do not mistake my words on the nature of conflict for cruel and uncaring.

I love. I care for others. I seek to protect and preserve. I am War. Dualistic nature is not a new concept. Not as a result of study of ancient religions/gods... and not within myself.
Can it be said that one should not defend his/her home and family? Friends, country, or way of life? When the machinations of the overly ambitious and greedy are left unchecked, they will come to take what is yours... they will try to hurt or kill you and the ones you love to take it. If you choose to NOT lay down and die, or for your loved ones to lay down and die, then you can understand the necessity of war.

“Am I Evil?” Those who would answer “Yes” and stop there... they fail to recognize how preservation can result from destruction. On a very fundamental level, if we do not preserve, we do not exist. On a more personal level, if I do not preserve, you and those I love will be destroyed. Oblivion is the ultimate end and evil. As long as there is conflict and war, there is existence ... there is life – and for that, IN that, you should celebrate.

For these reasons and more, I favor those who protect over those who seek destruction... Know this because, in time, you may come to know my favor... Those who recognize the truth in these things will be empowered... Embrace these words and begin to command the results of conflict.

You can hope for peace, but you know in your very essence that war is coming to everyone. When conflict arises, where will you be? With whom will you stand? He that knows war, determines conflict, and empowers those who follow.

Through me flows the energy of eons that gives light to the world and enables life. When you are in conflict you will call out “War, grant me your favor!” and where the light of day touches, I will see and judge your cause.

And when you war with another who believes he is just in his cause, you will both be judged, and I will ask “what have you done for me?”

Be worthy. Do not confuse wanton destruction or carnage for war. Do not claim war to be your ally when you simply want to take what belongs to another.

Share my words so that all will know, and all will become stronger. And when those who seek only death come, we will turn conflict on them and will preserve in their destruction.
